JGrock, Revisited
As longtime readers of this blog will know, I am a huge supporter of the burgeoning genre of JGrock--that is, songs based on the work of John Green. (I am open to better genre names.) Recent entrants into the field include:
1. Hank Green's song "The List," which is basically taken word-for-word from a scene near the beginning of Paper Towns:
(Sung here on the last night of the Great American Tour de Nerdfighting, at which point we were both punch drunk and playing this game where we both tried to hold the last note for as long as possible. Hank's REAL HONEST TO GOD STUDIO ALBUM, btw, came out yesterday.)
2. Lauren Fairweather's brilliant and hilarious "Black Santas:"
3. A song called "Up Here, Looking Down" about Margo and Q looking down from the SunTrust Building:
4. A song about Margo and Q called "My Mirror:"
5. Another version of "The List" (no pressure to BUY HANK'S ALBUM or anything).

I see that momentum for Paper Towns is still a rolling. Care to keep it going? I may have an almost (but not really) original suggestion. Please check your inbox for Something Completly Different. Oh, and rock on John... rock on.
I'm working on a Looking for Alaska song... although at this point it more just ALLUDES to it that retells.
What about Nerdfighter rock? Though NF-rock doesn't exactly roll off the tongue...
I started writing a song about Willy in my Lit Study class last semester. I never finished it, though. :\
My favorite is "Lookin for Alaska" by Hank (written by Liane Graham). "The List" is awesome too, but, like the books, I like Alaska just that much more!
Wooo NerdRock!
Heh, I wrote a song inspired by Looking for Alaska a few months ago. Unfortunately the only recording of it is... dodgy! The lyrics are a bit hard to make out in places, but it's on one of my myspaces if you'd like to hear...

I may yet re-record it and put it on the youtubes. (channel = MusicFromBlueSkies)
Ummm...I feel kind of loser-y for not writing a song about one of your books. However, I did buy Hank's album!!! Also, since I am a librarian I tell literally every person who looks at YA lit to read your books because they are AMAZING!
"jgrock" might be my favourite genre name since "bunny rock".
Yay Paper Towns music! Nerdfighter rock makes my life. I wrote one but it's terrible and will probably never leave the contents of my notebook.
(Tomorrow at 3 AM is very special, don't forget about it!)
Can we still get the Paper Towns collab album. Please?
Recently, I wrote a song about Paper Towns. It is from Q's point of view singing to/about Margo. I wrote it for an AP Literature book project as a way to illustrate how Q did not understand who Margo was and the complexities of Margo's character, and his journey towards finding her.
I haven't yet posted it on Youtube because the only instrument I can really play is the marimba and I'm sure the song would sound better with guitar.
To the people who do not yet have the Paper Towns collab album, you can go get it at twitter.com/nerdfighters
Happy uploading :)
What about Liane's 'Looking for Alaska'? My favourite JGrock song! Now I will go think up a better name than JGrock, because tbh that just does not trip off the tongue...
omg! I filmed that first video from the last night of the Tour de Nerdfighting! how exciting. :)
I would go for greencore as the genre name. And I'm starting a band with it soon.
ben.
ps. CAPTCHA dictionary entry: antscho - When you step on an anthill. Like genocide. But for ants.
I was in that library in Gadsden, Alabama. I believe I asked a question about "Nick." Good times. :)
That essay still makes me cry when I read it. Thank you for writing, John. Sincerely.
Flocier: The French term for "flosser." A flosser being one who flosses.
