Paper Towns Playlist

Greetings from Berlin. Sarah and I are having a wonderful time here. More on that topic will come in videoblog form tomorrow.

But for now: I recently put together a Paper Towns playlist. I have never made a playlist before, so we'll see how I did.

1. "Game Shows Touch Our Lives," The Mountain Goats
2. "The History of the Concept of the Soul," The Mr. T Experience
3. "Holland, 1945," Neutral Milk Hotel
4. "Up the Wolves," The Mountain Goats
5. "Piazza, New York Catcher," Belle and Sebastian
6. "Bucketseats," Cake
7. "Walt Whitman's Niece," Billy Bragg and Wilco
8. "Champs Elysees," NOFX
9. "Cotton," The Mountain Goats
10. "New Partner," The Palace Brothers
11. "Union Maid," Old Crow Medicine Show
12. "Walk on Boy," Doc Watson
13. "Superstition," Blanche
14. "Hesitating Beauty," Billy Bragg and Wilco
15. "Greetings in Braille," The Elected
16. "All My Little Words," The Magnetic Fields

There's probably a way to make the playlist link to actual songs or something--if I figure out how, I will edit accordingly. Oh, and also: Hank's hilarious Obama Llama Duck song was on NPR's All Things Considered.

Great playlist. I particularly like the inclusion of Billy Bragg and Wilco, who are like, absurdly talented.

If you wish to link the songs directly from your blog to the iTunes store, here is what you do:
-Find the song in the iTunes store
-Right click the song and select "Copy iTunes Store URL"
-Paste that URL in your blog, making the song a direct link

Hope that helps. Enjoy Berlin!

Here's how (from Wired, via Lifehacker): Share iTunes playlists with the world

Love the playlist. I would add Jeff Buckley's "Hallelujah," but then, I would probably add that to every playlist, ever.

Cake? Neutral Milk Hotel? BELLE AND SEBASTIAN? I love you like, THAT much more (in the fangirl way, of course).

Belle and Sebastian!

I hope Berlin's cold weather isn't eating your face like London's is eating mine. I put something in the post that should hopefully arrive at Penguin US and then to you shortly.

Excellent! I just bought a copy of Paper Towns today at NYC's Strand Bookstore. So exciting! They only had copies of the yellow cover. Otherwise I would have stood there for a very long time debating over which version to buy! :) I'll definitely keep your playlist in mind while reading!

See you October 16th--the Paper Towns release party is going to be AWESOME!

Can you create a playlist for Looking for Alaska?? OR! That would be a great challenge to nerdfighters all over the map!

The Mountain Goats, Neutral Milk Hotel, Cake, NOFX, Wilco, Magnetic Fields???! Be still my fangirl heart. If for no other reason than this playlist -- I MUST read Paper Towns!

Try muxtape.com if you want to share the songs. It's legal and from what I've heard (haven't uploaded to it myself), really easy to use.

most of the songs can be found on a playlist i created here.

the missing ones:
the history of the concept of the soul
walt whitman's niece (sadly, not the full track)
union maid
walk on boys
hesitating beauty (also not the full track)

am i missing any accidentally? can anyone with more awesome than me put it all together? this is a start, anyway. also, let me know if the playlist link (or any of the songs on the playlist) doesn't work. i've never tried to link to anything on the site before, so i'm not sure it will (and also, i know sometimes the songs don't play, for some reason). i hope it does, though!

happy listening, everyone! :-)

and oops, "walk on boy", not boys. typo. sorry!

(also, i couldn't find a cake song called "bucketseats", but when i searched, the stick shifts song came up. i hope that's the right one!)

Hey John,
You can go to projectplaylist.com and create a playlist. They have easy ways to link them to your blog.

So I made a Project Playlist playlist for this, but seven of the songs weren't on there (tracks 2, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, and 14). I will link to it anyway though.

If you know how I can find the songs that aren't on there, please send me a message on that account (the username is "papertowns").

I love the Belle and Sebastian--it completely fits with Paper Towns. I think you should add "Beautiful Day" by U2. It goes along with Margo's personality well.

Great playlist! It's fun to try to figure out how each song goes with the book. Some suggestions to add: I was listening to some Dispatch and "Bang Bang" seems like it would go well with Paper Towns, too. And maybe "Mission."

While you have quite good music taste already, I highly recommend taking a listen to The Helio Sequence. They're so good! I've been in love with them for quite some time now.

And I know I'm posting way late on this post but eh, I've been too busy reading books to read blogs.

See you and Hank in Seattle today!!!

Great playlist! I looked up all of the songs on iTunes and was shocked to learn that I already had some! It was weird though because before I read this I was listening to a CD and a song reminded me of Paper Towns and then it was on the playlist. I was really hoping that you would make playlists for your other books because I love playlists! And your books! It's the best of both worlds! (Not the Hannah Montana song though.)

Just finished Paper Towns after I picked it up last Thursday. It was- to put simply- amazing. I haven't read Alaska or Katherine's but after reading Paper Towns I feel I must go get them now.

I had to make a playlist for school to this book and this is what I put.
1. Starts With Goodbye by Carrie Underwood
2.I Love You 5 by NeverShoutNever
3.California by NeverShoutNever
4.Set the Fire to the Third Bar by Snow Patrol and Martha Wainwright
5. Cave In bye Owl City
6. Runaway by Thriving Ivory
7. Secret Life by Thriving Ivory
8. Hello Fascination by Breathe Carolina

So here's just another take on the book. Hope you enjoy (:
