Peeps for Bangladesh

A video in which I talk about the difficulty of imagining the radically other with complexity (a theme that my poor, long-suffering readers have been force-fed for years now) and make a ridiculous commitment to eat a lot of Peeps.

You can donate here. A word of caution as always: Shawn is not a charity. The nerdfighter community pools money, and then we vote on how we want to spend that money, and then Shawn does the things we want him to do. (He keeps open books, and makes videos about each project, so we're able to follow every dollar.) For instance, right now he is in Southern Bangladesh getting a pond sand filter built in a village that hasn't had safe water in recent memory. The PSF, if properly maintained, will ensure safe water for three years. Next, he'll be rebuilding a school that was destroyed in a cyclone. To watch his progress, check out his blog or follow him on twitter.

hrmm...

This is awsome, I hope to be able to make some sort of donation, miniscule as it may be.

First comment? Really? Oh dear.

I remember voting for the PSF a few months ago when Shawn was still figuring out what he was going to do with the nerdfighters' donations. It is so amazing to be able to have this much of a direct and active part in helping others out. Definitely helps to bring about a greater sense of intimacy and empathy.

I was wondering if you knew how specifically this money would be spent. Will the money raised through this peeps challenge be used to pay for the labor for the school? I think that could help out Shawn a lot right now.

LOL. You're so funny. :)
And it's great that money is going to the people in Bangladesh. :)

I love Shawn's work and what he has done. Kudos to him and I cannot wait to see the school. I have a question for you for Question Tuesday: When you will be attending NJLA in April is there a chance you may do some exterior appearances that do not include librarians? If no dude I understand. Librarians alone wane your energy. They have so much passion that it makes you want to be a librarian

ok this is unrelated to the blog, but do you have a mailing address where I could send fan mail? Sorry, if it is posted somewhere and I just couldn't find it. Thank you so much!

so perhaps it's, like, lost in translation coz peeps = people here in Australia. I'd hope you weren't going to eat 100 people for Bangladesh! :)
