NAFADOYBIMSCOM and San Francisco
COME SEE ME THIS AFTERNOON AT 3:30 AT RAKESTRAW BOOKS IN DANVILLE, CA.
I made a NAFADOYBIMSCOM (National Finish A Draft Of Your Book I Mean Seriously Come On Month) comeback yesterday and more than met my writing goal. I hate flying, but the one good thing about flying is that I always enjoy writing on planes, and the 5-hour trip from New York to San Francisco gave me lots of time.
I had a great time last night at Not Your Mother's Book Club, and the house was packed. There was also a special surprise guest in the form of Frank Portman, author of the excellent King Dork and lead singer of my favorite rock and roll band, The Mr. T Experience. (I have been a fan of the band for more than 10 years, so I kind of geeked out about being able to meet him, but hopefully not too much.) I can report that Frank is every bit as cool in person as his book and songs would indicate.

My hometown is less than 30 minutes from Dublin.... so I should be there tonight, but I'm going to school in North Carolina at UNC. So do you know what your tour dates for NC are yet? Please please say Chapel Hill or Durham or Raleigh or somewhere close like that : )
I meant "Danville," but they're pretty much the same thing : )
Thanks for coming to San Francisco! Your NYMBC appearance was worth a two-hour drive (that Mapquest said should be 44 minutes) in the rain. The three of us didn't mean to arrive so late -- honest.
And sign me up for NAFADOYBIMSCOM. This is the fourth school year I've been working on my young YA. Two people in my writers group are doing that other novel-writing project this month. I don't need to procrastinate any more by starting a new book, for heaven's sake. Your idea is perfect. Thanks for that, too.
when are you coming to birmingham? i know that you want to see your alma mater again! (not that it's mine, but still) i finally finished got around to reading your books! and i must confirm that both are fabulous!
