John Green: Author of Paper Towns, An Abundance of Katherines and Looking for Alaska
An Abundance of Katherines Looking for Alaska Paper Towns anagrams famous last words Bio and Contact

Three Parts

1. Australia: I'm going there. There will be a reading/discussion/nerdfighter gathering on May 31st in Melbourne (you can book tickets here) and one in Sydney at the bookstore Kinokuniya on the evening on June 3rd. (You can book a spot for that by emailing sydneynerdfighters (at) gmail.com) I am very excited!

2. Bridget Zinn: A lovely YA writer and librarian, Bridget Zinn, has recently been diagnosed with cancer. Writers and editors and kidlit bloggers have come together to auction off some sweet prizes to help Bridget pay for her medical care, and I'm hoping you'll go see what's available and bid bid bid.

3. I am overrated: This is the most totally true and totally fun takedown of me (and to a lesser extent my brother) I have ever seen in my life.

I think it's awesome that you're going to be in Melbourne, but why Australia?? Why not the charming midwest, US of A? Specifically, Wisconsin? I have thirty-five dollars in my wallet, I think Australia is out of my range....:)

John Green is Overrated is hilarious. Safe travels to the land down under. (Damn - am now hearing Men At Work on brainradio.)

Okay, maybe I don't get "satire", but I think I get comedy... That wasn't funny to me, it just seemed offensive.
I mean, you can insult something in a humorous way, yeah, but that - idk. Honestly, I probably just don't get it.

John, you're the man, nonetheless. lol.

Bravo to johngreenisoverrated! I too am greatly annoyed by your "successful literary career" (nah, that's not jealousy, it's righteous annoyance!) I just wish there was a link to purchase a JGIO bumper sticker.

The commenters on JGIO are almost of YouTube quality!

Hey John! This is absolutely off-topic, but I wanted to know if you've read the novel Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta. If you have, what did you think of it? I just finished it and found it very compelling.

john--today i took a tour of a college library, and on the women's restroom toilet paper dispenser was written...DFTBA. it pretty much made my day, since this is the closest i have come to meeting another nerdfighter...and yes, i took a picture of it...do you want me to email it to you?

Did Maureen Johnson make John Green is Overrated? It seems slightly likely.

re. CalculatedPlans
Why else would you be annoyed at someone else's success if you weren't jealous? Or just an asshat?

At May 15, 2009 , Anonymous FionaWeird said...

Hopefully I can make it to your event in Melbourne can't wait! :)

Love the fact you're overrated...perhaps i will decide it is correct and that i will "convert"...and turn up to the event holding a "welcome the nimrod" sign?

At May 15, 2009 , Anonymous Anonymous said...

I agree with The Blazing Snow - it wasn't that funny. The comments were, with all the nerdfighters defending you guys, though! Go nerds!!
I'd add more, but I think the rest of the commenters covered it for me XD

Oh, and Fiona, if you take that sign to the event we NEED pictures!! ROFL!

nerdfighteria feels a bit lacking after looking at the comments at johngreenisoverated.

on the upside, however, this means john could literally direct the nerd herd to conduct whatever nefarious deeds he wishes.

Sorry, glaring metamorphoses, I was only joking (hence the anagram).
But you're right, I am jealous - not of a literary career but of having 100,000 fiercely protective fans. Hell, I'd be happy with 10 loyal followers. But alas, us asshats have a hard time making friends.

JGIO is obviously the work of Maureen Johnson, although I'm not sure how she managed to do all that writing in between tweets.

Just found out David Levithan one of devious minds behind 39 Clues in article on School Library Journal

Totally cannot keep up but yet abusively keep coming back for more.

I really love the pic, CalculatedPlans. How much love is ever enough? Is it 100,000? 1,000,000? You "know" you're not an asshat.

Maureen extremely chatty today for someone not feeling well.

From one of the best bands of the 80s, The Thompson Twins, I say "lies, lies, lies - yeah"

John,

I enjoy your YouTube videos and books tremendously, but I think I'm going to have to side with your hater/troll on this one. (S)He puts up a convincing argument and seems pretty funny. Also, I'm a disgusting crapweasel who always clambers to the side of keyboard gangster: it's great being a nerdfighter and everything, but sometimes you need some goonish muscle to back up your Shakespearean insults. Amirite?

No hard feelings.

That is so awesome, have fun
You should probably come back to Europe, too
Hopefully your books will be translated into Spanish and you can come visit here
By the way, the blog isn't really updated every single day is it?

Hello Poor Eyes - are you referring to me as the hater/troll? If so, I am horrified.
I can be sarcastic and scathing (and I tried to be a little ambiguous in the last comment), but I love John and Hank and the nerdfighters and the fun and laughs (and tears, esp John's books) they bring to my life.
It is just so frustrating and impossible to try to keep up with the writings, vlogs, blogs, Tweets, live video feeds, and I don't even know what else b/c I have jobs, family, other interests, life and do not intend to become an obsessed nerd glued to computer.
I just felt I had to call him out the other night b/c there are clues/hints/misleads all over their online information, and I wonder if he thinks we don't notice or if we are supposed to notice and treat it as sarcasm. John has freely admitted he lies so I just wanted to point out a great '80s song that came to mind due to some of the recent internet activity. My reference to the "39 Clues" series by Rick Riordan is something I'm trying to get my readers interested in as it does involve reading a "book" but also using a computer so that maybe I can get them to meet me half-way with reading. And I'm curious as to what project John is working on with David Levithan...and if it will exist in a similar vein. So it was a "smack in the head realization moment" for me.
I'm way too invested in this, but I also can't walk away from finding out the end of the story or watching the 2 hour finale. It would be like breaking up with a favorite TV show (House)or book series. You just have to say, "ok, one weekend I'm not going to do anything but watch the dvds of the last 2 seasons or re-read the last 3 books in the series so that when the new release comes out, all the details are fresh in my mind.
So please let me make clear that I do not hate the Greens (and I'm not a troll, hopefully something more in the elvish family). And, though I like playing games and solving puzzles, I don't like being "played". (in the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, some of the words that I'm shooting for here are "trifle", "exploit", "manipulate" - who knew there were so many definitions of played?)

Can you tell that I have found my people, and I am they. DFTBA

Hey John -- just so you know, I think the guestbook on TiNT is messed up. The links for the Captcha codes are broken (or at least have been broken for me for the past two weeks). Thus: no captcha, no signing the guestbook.

I miss being able to sign in at the end - I really hope I'm the only one with this.

Dear lalibrarylady86,

Hello. I was actually referring to 'John Green is Overrated' in my original comment. Sorry to have upset you, but I enjoyed your passionate reply in a kind of confused way. I hadn't read any of the previous comments, so was totally stumped regarding what the hell you were talking about.
