  3. I still think Alan of FallofAutumnDistro fame has the best idea, albeit a self-serving one.

Recording 317 clips for the Build-A-Vlog project would be very fun!

  4. Well I think it's obvious that you should tell us 317 outrageous lies.
Or confess to 317 outrageous lies.
    Or both.

  5. Tell us 317 random facts that you know, or that you one day want to include in your books.

Also, I was at the library festival on Saturday and gave you the yeti book! Did you like it?

Anyone else find is a strange coincidence (I mean, most coincidences are by nature strange, I guess) that YFN's call number thing is 317, and that's also the number of things John must do?

I realize there is most likely no correlation between these things other than John actually writing YFN's story, but still. I find it interesting.

Oh, and 317 "in your pants" jokes in one day. Footage must, of course, be provided, and the 4 minute limit may be ignored.
(These should preferably happen during interactions with other people, not just you talking at the camera.)

  12. hi John, I have a question for you:

How was it like when you first sat down to write your first novel? (Because I know you didn't study Creative Writing like some other writers did, I assume it could be intimidating to face the blank page and attempt to write more than 60,000 words for the very first time...)

Could you give some advice to the novice writers on how to conquer the fear to complete a first draft of a novel?

    Many thanks!

Speaking of which, if you are still taking questions...

Looking For Alaska features several innovative and hilarious pranks. Did you partake in any high school pranks? If so, can you provide us with a few examples of pranks that you performed?

  19. Things John can do...
Go to trapeze school with Maureen and stay on the trapeze, in the air, for 317 minutes.
Alternatively, go to trapeze school with Maureen and stay upside down on the trapeze for 317 seconds, or maybe three minutes and seventeen seconds.
Write 317 letters to Amazon protesting #amazonfail. And they cannot all say the same thing. It must be 317 /different/ letters.
Come up with a list of 317 things that you could do 317 times - and do them all.
Finally, for those of us who never know what to read, write 317 book reviews in a month.
Ooh! Or get 317 YA authors (are there even that many alive?) to blog every day for three days straight. Because that would make the awesome level skyrocket.

  22. Instead of eating 317 peeps, can you see how many peeps you can stuff in your mouth at one time?

  23. Something I thought you might find interesting, assuming you read this comment, is that according the the Stephen Fry and his amazing British quiz show, QI, that very elephant building used to reside on Coney island, and was actually the first American thing millions of immigrants saw as they sailed into our nation. It turns out that you see Coney island before you see Ellis island, and therefore see a giant elephant-shaped building before you see the statue of liberty. Also, at the time the building was built it was the first recorded building in America to be shaped like an animal, and the architect actually held a patent on animal-shaped buildings. Finally, although it opened as a hotel, within a few years it was serving as a brothel.

    Just sayin'.
    And John.
    You should.
    Uhm.
    Hug 317 people?
It's far less painful, I think, than the first thing I thought of. (That being 317 pull-ups.)

  27. I don't have any suggestions for 317 things, but as the creator of those socks I wanted to say that I am thrilled to see that they made it to you in good shape. Wear in good health and awesome-ness.

PS. Handknit socks are knit to last but in the event that you incur some unforseen sock injury I would be happy to mend them for you. That's the sock-knitter's guarantee.

    PPS. My socks are famous!
