Tennessee/Alabama

Does anyone know a library in Tennessee and/or Birminghamish, Alabama that might be able to host an event on the Great American Tour de Nerdfighting 2008? Say, around Nov. 6th and 7th?

Here are some helpful statistics on the topic:

1. Our honorarium is extraordinarily modest.

2. All our events so far have drawn more than 100 kids.

3. It will be so fun I swear.

If you have any leads, email me: sparksflyup --at-- gmail.com

Thanks!

  3. Try the Homewood Library in Birmingham. You could also look into Memphis, TN. They're public library has wonderful facilities
Now, to be selfish, would it HAVE to be on those dates? I'm leaving for Washington D.C. on a school trip on that day and won't get back until the 10th.

P.S. You should check in the Southern Mississippi area. Jackson/Gulf Coast/Hattiesburg are wonderful places!

  6. So basically you're going to be traveling nonstop from October through November? I don't envy you, but I'm so grateful you're coming to AZ at all. Now to fight with my parents about getting down to Phoenix.

(PS - You should come back to AZ for the Great American Tour De Nerdfighting. Specifically Flagstaff)

  8. Could you possibly consider bringing the Tour de Nerdfighting to Minneapolis? They have an amazing new library that is pretty jokes.

  11. I do not have a connection either but I second the Nashville Public Library. I've heard that the people there are fairly easy to work with on these kinds of things and its just a gorgeous library that anyone nerdfighterly would adore.

  13. Hi
I'm the Adult Services Librarian at Emmet O'Neal Library in Mountain Brook - we would love to have you John!
Email me at kmoellering@bham.lib.al.us - I got to meet you at ALA several years ago - just before Looking for Alaska was published. I was with my sister Jenni Hubbard - we chatted and talked about you coming to the library, so now's the time!!!!!
    Take Care

  21. Totally check with the Nashville library. It is awesome- they have speakers come a lot, so I'm sure they'd be up for it.

  22. So it's probably already too late, but I e-mailed the University of Tennessee library about it because they are hosting an event called "Writers in the Library" this fall. I definately second the Knoxville suggestion, but Nashville would be amazing as well. :-D

  23. I know there's already a lot of suggestions for the Nashville public library, so I won't suggest it again... But I (and I'm sure a lot of other people) would love to know if you have found a place in TN yet!

  24. The Hoover Library in Birmingham, Al often holds many events and is very easy to get to. It has quite a bit of space to host an event such as the Tour de Nerdfighting. It is also easy to advertise for events that are held there. I am familiar with most of the libraries in the Birmingham/Metro area and, considering the type of event and audience you are attracting, this would be my top suggestion. I hope this has been helpful and look forward to the opportunity of attending the Tour de Nerdfighting.

  25. While I'm in Kentucky, and really forfreakingreal want you to come here, I'd be good with Nashville as well. Being in the western part of the state, I'm closer to Nashville than I am, say, Louisville.
    So come to Nashville.
Or Paducah, Kentucky. Which would be awesome. I mean, you do mention it in Katherines....sounds like a good enough reason to me. :)
